Pakistan Independence Day observed in Beijing

The Pakistani embassy in China held a flag raising ceremony in Beijing on Monday to celebrate Pakistan's 70th Independence Day.

Ambassador Masood Khalid read messages from Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The event "showcased patriotic zeal, wherein founding fathers and martyrs of the nation were remembered who had given sacrifices to secure independence from foreign rule", said a statement released by the embassy.

"We need to reiterate our strong resolve to always uphold the values of determination and dedication for the objective of the development of Pakistan," Hussain said in his message.

"Today we are treading the path of prosperity and progress in a peaceful and dignified country because of those sacrifices," Abbasi said.

The ambassador congratulated the Pakistani community in China and said the Pakistani nation today is fully united and determined to meet all challenges and continue its march towards progress and development.

Pakistani children performed national songs and a cake was served.
