SHENZHEN, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) — The Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit is being held in south China's Guangdong Province.
The three-day event started Monday in Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen, a city in Guangdong. Thirty-seven presidents and experts from the world's top-ranking universities from 16 countries and regions are taking part.
They are holding discussions about the role of research universities in the world, trends in global higher education, and the opportunities and challenges that world's higher education is facing.
Phil Baty, editorial director of global rankings for THE, said that this was the first time that the event is being held in a city on the Chinese mainland.
Two universities from the Chinese mainland and three from China's Hong Kong SAR are among the top 10 in the 2018 THE Asia University Rankings.
